In 1967, Hank Palmer & Associates, Inc., bought Rowan Printing Company in Salisbury, N. C., which specialized in printing forms for funeral homes around North Carolina as well as club newsletters for most of the local civic and religious organizations.
When Hank Palmer bought the business, it was also a popular retail store in the “Washington Building” that sold office, art and school supplies. It had a book section, which also offered cards and gifts, and a wedding department. The Advertising Specialties Division was originally a small part of the company! As ad specialties and promotional products started becoming more mainstream, Hank Palmer sold the retail store in 1986, making the advertising department his sole occupation and the successful family-owned business it is today. Mostly serving NC (but selling anywhere in the U.S.!) HP&A, Inc., employed an outside sales force around the state. The company is also the NC representative for Bass Mollett Publishers in IL.
It was then that Hank’s daughter, Joan, became an integral part of the business in sales as well as office managing, and Hank’s wife, “Petie”, did all of the bookkeeping. Most of their employees and other sales people had been with them for so long, they felt like family too!
In 2008, Joan became the president of Hank Palmer & Associates, Inc. Utilizing her 22 years of experience, she continues the family legacy of professional and personal service. Joan works with businesses, event planners, and groups of all sizes promoting their products, services, events and occasions with a huge variety of promotional items.
The Palmer family has always been active in civic, religious and business organizations, attributing the success of their business to building relationships.
